Essential glossary

Rare earths

A group of 17 chemical elements: the 15 lanthanides, plus scandium and yttrium.

Occurrence

A record of mineral presence. It does not by itself equal a resource or reserve.

Favorability

A comparative reading of evidence used to prioritize areas for further investigation.

Investigation target

An area prioritized by a testable hypothesis. Geological and field validation are still required.

Mineral resource

A concentration with reasonable prospects for extraction, estimated and classified under applicable technical criteria.

Mineral reserve

The economically mineable part of a resource, demonstrated through technical, legal, and economic studies.

Remote sensing

Territorial observation by orbital or airborne sensors without direct surface contact.

Traceability

The ability to identify a piece of information's origin, transformations, limits, and revisions.
